Today while sewing I came to a terrifying realization: I need more fabric. I quickly went online and reordered some. The company, Envirotextiles, was out of one of the fabrics but I called and ensured they would ship out the one I really needed today. Let us hope i win this race against the clock.

The past few days have been consumed by buttons- in a good way. AT first, I was very confused on how to handle the button dilema. I didn't want to order more things, and it is hard to find a natural type of closure. However, after discussing it with my ceramics teacher, Mr. Sensbach, we decided to cut left over wood from other projects into the button shape, then drill in the holes. I used a stencil to sketch the button shape onto the wood, and a coping saw to carve out the buttons. Using the saw was a lot more difficult than imagined, but it gave the buttons the desired rugged look. Following sawing the buttons, they were still too thick, so we used a chisel and hammer to split them in half. This gave a very nice texture where the glue was on the inside of the wood. HOwever, the buttons were still not the desired color, so I later soaked them in coffee grounds for 24 hours in order to give them a darker hue. Holes were drilled to make the button holes. Overall, my buttons are very successful and will be featured in my finished designs.A few weeks ago I met with Ms. Carsley to talk about my final designs. She helped me with the proportions of my models and gave me some very valuable input. Also, last minute I had a model drop out because he is uncomfortable to be photographed in a skirt. This is very understandable and I am trying to find a new model. It is very important to me to try and have a cisgendered male wearing a skirt in the final photoshoot in order to show the true gender neutral nature of this line. I hope I will find someone. So I have been looking at my CALENDAR and planning out when to do things. estimate I will be doing around one outfit a week for the next five weeks, then on May 18-19 i will work one photographing the models. I need to speak to the school to see if I can have access to the woods over that weekend. If not, I would PROBABLY do the shoot in a local park. It is very important that the photoshoot is done in nature because nature and barns are what inspired the designs. In addition, the line is made to be sustainable, and a woodsy background would best compliment this. I am not a master photographer, so my friend meg will help me photograph the models in the pieces. In addition to meg's help, aidan and kialeigh, two of my models, are also photographers and said they would help me as well. Everything is coming into place.Hey everyone. So yesterday I had my first official fitting of my first completed outfit. After school I met with my model, Alex, and he tried on his outfit. with some minor alterations, it fit great. One down, five to go. I didn't take any pictures but I am sure to next time. Also, I am thinking about starting a section of the site to be about my models and have a bio for them. Working on that now.I have decided that I am going to make my own buttons, with the help of my ceramics teacher mr. Sensbach. I am using left over wood from other projects and cutting the buttons by hand to give them a natural look. I will then drill holes in the buttons. I am currently waiting for the school to purchase the saw that I need.Hey everyone. I'm a bit behind on my blog posts so I am going to do my best to catch everybody up. One of the major things I have done is redye my brown fabric with a stronger coffee. This coffee was donated by cafe pronto. If you ever have a chance, make sure to try their coffee. I basically followed the same process as before, but got much better results because of the deeper brew. Here are some photos.OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS I HAVE BEEN REDRAWING MY FASHION DESIGNS TO MATCH MY CURRENT GOALS FOR THE LINE. EACH DRAWING REPRESENTS THE MODEL THAT WILL BE WEARING THE LOOK IN THE FINAL PHOTOSHOOT. TO REDRAW THE LOOKS I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ON FASHION FIGURE DRAWING. THIS INCLUDES GOING THROUGH MY TEXTBOOK, "9 HEADS," AS WELL AS CONSULTING FORMER HANDOUTS FROM COLLEGE COURSES SUCH AS MY FASHION DRAWING COURSE AT SCAD, DRAWING THE FASHION FIGURE COURSE AT FIT AND MY FASHION DESIGN COURSE AT ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY. ALL OF THIS KNOWLEDGE HAS HELPED ME SKETCH OUT MY LATEST VERSIONS THAT MORE ACCURATELY REPRESENT MY CREATIONS. CURRENTLY 4/6 SKETCHES ARE DONE IN PENCIL. I WILL HAVE TO COLOR THEM IN AFTER I FINISH SKETCHING THEM ALL IN PENCIL. I HAVE DECIDED TO DO ONE SKETCH PER PIECE OF PAPER FOR EMPHASIS. I AM ATTACHING PROGRESS PICTURES BELOW.Hey everyone! It's me again. I just finished my two week spring break so i thought I would update all of my avid blog post readers about how my project is going. Yay. Over spring break my goal was to finish making my yarn samples and redraw my figures. My yarn is coming along strong. I will post photos of it later. Redrawing the designs has been interesting. Right now I have 4/6 sketched out. I'm waiting on the other two becaUSE I AM TRYING TO FIND A MODEL. EACH OF THE FIGURES IN THE SKETCHES CORRESPOND WITH THAT OUTFIT'S MODEL. TO DRAW THE FASHION CROQUIS (FIGURES) I HAVE GONE BACK TO CONSULTING OLD DESIGN PAPERS. I'LL DETAIL THIS IN MY NEXT POST. ALSO, OVER BREAK THE PART THAT I WAS MISSING FOR MY SEWING MACHINE CAME IN. I PICKED IT UP AND MY MACHINE IS IN WORKING ORDER. THIS WAS A BIT COMPLICATED THOUGH BECAUSE I HAD TO SPECIAL ORDER THE PIECE BECAUSE PFAFF DOES NOT MAKE MY MACHINE ANYMORE. MAKES SENSE BECAUSE I GOT THE MACHINE IN FIFTH GRADE AS A GIFT FROM MY GRANDMA. GOING TO THE SEWING SHOP WAS COOL THOUGH BECAUSE I HAD NOT BEEN THERE SINCE EARLY MIDDLE SCHOOL WHEN I USED TO TAKE LESSONS. GOI NG WAS VERY NOSTALGIC AND IT WAS NICE TO BE ABLE TO UPDATE THE PEOPLE THAT TAUGHT ME HOW TO SEW ON WHAT I AM DOING NOW. EVERYONE WAS VERY EXCITED THAT I AM STILL SEWING. WELL THAT 'S IT FOR TONIGHT. GOOD BYE.Yesterday I started working with yarn. I am using yarn for EMBELLISHMENTS on my DESIGNS, and in the case of a certain TANK TOP, as SLEEVES. I purchased this organic 100% cotton yarn over the summer in New York city. HOwever, the colors that I ORIGINALLY chose do not go well with my designs. WHen I discussed this with Ms. Carsley she suggested just carrying on, for it is becoming too late to re-order. For the SLEEVES I'm trying a bunch of different knotting patters, which Ms. Kapsos provided me with. I want the embellishment parts looser, so I will PROBABLY FINGER KNIT those pieces and then stitch them on. I created a bunch of samples last night. Over spring break, I will finish making all of my EMBELLISHMENTS |
